We are currently promoting two Siena Center “On the Road” events:

1. Media Literacy Two-Day Retreat (includes 12 hours of content and activities)

Learn how media content creators manipulate our emotions to get us to take certain actions. Avoiding this type unconscious triggering is especially important as we get older and with the prevalence of scammers and fake AI-generated videos.

Topics include:

  • Mass communication theories, such as agenda-setting and framing
  • Emotional triggering through unconscious and autonomous complexes
  • Gardner’s eight multiple intelligences
  • Hofstede’s six cultural dimensions
  • Brainwashing and propaganda

Retreat leader: Professor Amy Hitt teaches strategic communication at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. She loves Pope Francis, Jungian psychology, glamping, and Sedona.

Participates will be given guided worksheets.

Cost: In-person ($100 per person, plus travel expenses) or Zoom ($100 per person)

2. Pope Francis on Communication Workshop (3 hours of content and activities)

We will learn key points from Pope Francis’ 12 World Communications Day messages, such as how to disarm communication in today’s polarized world.
